img_9114I am a nature writer and educator who has lived all over the US and abroad, including many seasons working in Sequoia National Park. For now, I make my home in the New River Valley of southwestern Virginia at the confluence of the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains. I currently teach nature and environmental writing and creative nonfiction in Chatham University’s low-residency MFA program and also work in academic assessment at Radford University. All my writing focuses on the intricacies of place and I am particularly interested in the portrayal of animals in folklore, myth, science, and natural and cultural history in order to meditate on the complexities of human-animal relationships.
